Something's Fishy

Canadian researchers found that store-bought, farm raised salmon contains 3 to 6 times the WHO's daily recommendation for dioxin and polychlorinated biphenyls. The FDA deemed these two chemicals "probable human carcinogens" in 1977.

Farm raised fish are given a potent anti-parasitic drug called "ivermectin" to remove sea lice. This drug not only contaminates the fish, it contaminates waterways.

A website that keeps track of fish that are naturally LOW in toxins is The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch Service at www.mbayaq.org/cr/seafoodwatch.asp

Caution: Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children should not eat shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish because of their high levels of mercury.
