A 2008 Italian study linked snack foods to childhood obesity. Duh!
USDA research showed that children eating 3 square meals a day has decreased, while their consumption of high-calorie snack foods has gone up in consumption.
Some research also shows that unhealthy snacking lowers academic performance, lowers energy levels, and causes weight gain.
Part of these unhealthy calories comes from "liquid calories". Soft drinks, and the like, can account for 20% of daily intake of calories. This rise in beverage consumption leads to tremendous weight gain and health problems down the road.
